Welcome to Kid Communication-where sign language and speech therapy for children unite!!

While working as a speech therapist, I became an Independent Certified Instructor (ICI) of the Baby Signs(R) Program. This way I am able to combine my love of kids and sign language together!

Have you ever been frustrated because you could not understand what your baby or toddler was trying to tell you? Using gestures or signs when the verbal skills are not there, alleviates stress, frustration, and increases communication between parent and child. Children gesture naturally (point, reach, shake head) and all gestures are ways to communicate ideas. Just as speech therapy helps make the speech of older children more clear, using sign language helps younger children and babies communicate with the vast world around them and makes their intent to communicate "clearer."
The speech mechanism is a very complex one and most children are not able to produce one word phrases until 12 months or older. The ability to understand language and build vocabulary exists long before a child can physically speak. Therefore, signing or gesturing gives the baby or toddler a way to "talk" long before they are able to verbalize and be understood.
I provide speech therapy to children ages 4-15 years of age. My therapy includes remediation of tongue thrust and articulation disorders. I also offer informative speech assessments, consultations for parents on speech/language development and sign language, and classes to teach parents how to use the Baby Signs® Program at home.
